The Wildlife Rescue Center is an organization of home-based wildlife rehabilitators. We travel throughout central North Carolina to educate the public about our native wildlife. We have non-releasable birds of prey and reptiles that help us with the education process. Check out the “Calendar” page to see where we will be next; we would love to see you there! We also sell jewelry and other products made by our own very talented volunteers that you can take a look at on the “Donations” page. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to the care of the wildlife in our possession. Thank you for your continued support!
What is Wildlife Rehabilitation? Wikipedia describes wildlife rehabilitation as “the process of removing from the wild and caring for injured, orphaned, or sick wild animals. The goal of wildlife rehabilitation is to provide the food, housing and medical care of these animals, returning them to the wild after treatment.”
Please keep in mind that members of the Wildlife Rescue Center and most other wildlife rehabilitators are volunteers and are not funded.
A wildlife rehabilitator MUST possess the proper state and/or federal permits. The general public is permitted to pick up injured/orphaned wildlife and transport the animal to a licensed rehabilitator. Please visit the "Found a baby animal?" page to learn more.
Please do not ever attempt to touch a wild animal, unless you have been properly trained to do so. Wild animals can carry contagious diseases, including rabies and tuberculosis. If you would like to help an injured/orphaned wild animal, please contact a wildlife rehabilitator to receive proper instructions for yours and the animal’s safety.
Never feed wildlife! Feeding a wild animal will teach the animal that humans are good food sources and they will no longer be able to find food on their own in the wild.
Do not disturb a mother who has babies, no matter what species! Disturbing a mother can be stressful for her and her babies and could put their lives at risk.
Leave only footprints and take only memories!
